Its been over a decade since the last Age of Empires game was released, by then Ensemble Studios. With the series celebrating its twentieth anniversary later this year, its time for another entry in the popular real time strategy series. Earlier today at gamescom, Microsoft revealed the long awaited Age of Empires IV. Along with definitive editions for Age of Empires, Age of Empires II, and Age of Empires III.
“We can’t wait to tap into our strengths as a studio to fuse historical context with deep strategic gameplay, and to bring this franchise back to the forefront of gaming and into the hands of its beloved community.” – Relic Entertainment
Microsoft will be partnering with Relic Entertainment to bring Age of Empires IV exclusively to Windows 10; luckily Relic is no stranger to RTS games as the studio is mostly know for their Warhammer and Company of Heroes series. There isn’t much information on Age of Empires IV yet, but Relic is looking “forward to sharing” “more details in the months to come.” Until we get a solid release date you can watch the announcement trailer above, which features Charles Dance narrating over various periods of war.
