Blizzard Is Currently Working on 3 Maps for Overwatch

More maps are underway for Overwatch.

Overwatch is quickly approaching the one year anniversary mark since the game launched last year. From then, there has been quite a few changes to the game. We’ve had the usual buffs and nerfs, a ton of character skins to collect, new heroes, but not much new maps to play on. This has been a worry for some people, with some users giving concern over on the Overwatch forums. One user asked why there has only been two major maps released for the game since launch. Fortunately Overwatch Game Director, Jeff Kaplan had some good news to share on the matter.

We currently have 3 maps in development, all past the initial playtesting phase that are “standard” maps (QP/Comp). While something could always change, all 3 of those are looking likely for a release this year.

Jeff also went on to say that they have “3 non-standard maps in development”, which won’t go into quick-play or competitive modes. More than likely, these non-standard maps will go into the arcade play mode. Blizzard also has “few other experiments going on”, whatever that means. Maybe we’ll get another permanent game-mode this year, or something entirely new. Whatever it is, it’s good to hear that Blizzard is continuously supporting Overwatch and not charging for new content.
