A follow up to 2009’s real-time strategy game, Halo Wars, is officially getting a sequel on the Xbox One and Windows 10 systems. Announced earlier today during Microsoft’s Gamescom presentation, Halo Wars 2 is currently in development by Creative Assembly, scheduled for a fall 2016 release.

Halo Wars was originally developed by the now closed Ensemble Studios, the team behind the famous Age of Empires series. Released back in 2009 on the Xbox 360, Halo Wars became the best selling RTS game on consoles. A sequel announcement was a pleasant surprise, and developer Creative Assembly being in charge of development another one too. Halo Wars 2 seems to be in good hands with Creative Assembly, who’s no stranger to real-time strategy games, popular for their Total War franchise.
