Platinum Games highly anticipated Scalebound, has been officially canceled by Microsoft Studios. Announced way back during Microsoft’s E3 2014 press conference, Scalebound was a highly anticipated first party title. As an Microsoft exclusive and developed by Japanese developer Platinum Games, Scalebound looked to be another great addition to Microsoft’s video game lineup. Sadly, the cancellation of Scalebound puts a damper on Xbox One and PC gamers looking forward to the title.

“Today, I have a difficult announcement to share that affects our fans, Microsoft Studios team and a valued partner. After careful deliberation, we have come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. This decision was not made lightly.

At Microsoft, we remain committed to making Xbox and Windows 10 the best places to play games, and look forward to bringing “Halo Wars 2”, “Crackdown 3”, “State of Decay 2”, “Sea of Thieves” and other great experiences to our fans” via Microsoft Spokesperson

The development of Scalebound hasn’t been an easy one for Platinum Games, even under the leadership of Bayonetta’s director Hideki Kamiya. With its release date pushed back multiple times, and Microsoft keeping a tight lid on the game; Scalebound looked to be in trouble a long time ago. Hopefully Microsoft has a few surprises for their first-party lineup in 2017.
