Released just ten months ago on March 3rd, the Nintendo Switch has become the fastest-selling video game system of all time in the United States. With 4.8 million units sold so far in just the States; the Switch has even surpassed Nintendo’s own console the Wii, which had sold 4 million systems in the same time. With its portability and growing library of quality titles, its no surprise that the Nintendo Switch is selling so well.

“Fans across the country have experienced the joy of playing their favorite games at home or on the go,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO. “Now that many more people have received Nintendo Switch systems for the holidays, we look forward to bringing them fun new surprises in 2018 and beyond.”

Launching with the incredible Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and a fantastic ad campaign, people quickly jumped aboard the Nintendo Switch mania. It was clear from the beginning that this was a new Nintendo home console, as the Wii U’s name was confusing for casual consumers and even gamers alike. Nintendo’s catchy marketing and clever design of a hybrid system caught a lot of people’s attention. Third party support has been great so far for the Switch, with even Rockstar backing the system with the re-release of L.A. Noire.

Its evident that Nintendo has learned from their mistakes with the Wii U. With Nintendo Switch’s brilliant marketing and design, along with a steady increase of quality games to play. Consumers are taking notice of the Switch, and its record breaking sales prove that. With 2018 underway, it will be interesting to see how Nintendo continues their hot streak with the Switch. A Pokemon title and even more third party support can effortlessly increase sales, as well as more marketing to show off the console. With titles like; Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Arms, and many more. There shouldn’t be a reason for people to skip on the Nintendo Switch.
