Rumor: Modern Warfare 2 Remaster On the Way; Won’t Include Multiplayer

Activision is gearing up to release another Call of Duty remaster.

Nearly two years ago Modern Warfare Remastered was released alongside the futuristic Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare; however the only way to play the remastered version of Modern Warfare was if you purchased the more expansive Legacy version of Infinite Warfare. Activision eventually decided on releasing Modern Warfare Remastered standalone, even if it took a few months and angered many players who forked over the extra cash on Infinite Warfare.

Now fast forward to today and rumors are swirling that Activision has another Call of Duty remaster planned. Both Charlie Intel and Eurogamer report that the popular and fan favorite Modern Warfare 2 will be getting remastered. The rumors began to really gain traction when a listing on Amazon Italy was spotted, showing an April 30th release date for the Modern Warfare 2 Remaster. The listing also revealed a much lower price than the Modern Warfare remaster.

The Modern Warfare 2 remaster is reported to not include any sort of multiplayer, which is really strange considering Modern Warfare Remastered included its original multiplayer mode. By far the biggest and most popular feature of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was its ridiculously addicting multiplayer. To not include that and likely the Special Ops mode really defeats the whole point of doing a remaster in the first place.

Developer Raven Software who previously worked on the Modern Warfare Remastered is said to not be involved with the project, instead Beenox is rumored to be working on the remaster of Modern Warfare 2. Its bizarre that one of the most popular and iconic Call of Duty titles wouldn’t be getting a full fledged remaster, with stripped content and a different developer. Perhaps Activision is planning on selling the multiplayer portion of Modern Warfare 2 separately, or doesn’t want any sort of competition for the upcoming Black Ops 4. As of right now these are just unconfirmed rumors and speculation, but hopefully the multiplayer will be included in this remaster.
