Your favorite dragon just might be getting a new facelift for current gen consoles. A rumor from Kotaku suggests that a remaster of the original Spryo Trilogy will be arriving later this year for the PlayStation 4, on a one year exclusivity deal. Sources close to the project tell Kotaku that the Spyro Trilogy Remaster will be announced later next month, and will release in the third quarter of 2018. A September release was hinted at, which fits in with the series twentieth anniversary coming up.

The remaster is rumored to consist of the three original Spyro the Dragon games released for the PlayStation One, and will feature entirely reworked in-game assets, animations, cutscenes, lighting, and a remastered soundtrack. Developer Vicarious Visions is said to be behind the project, who had a lot of success working on the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. A release of a Spyro Trilogy remaster will most likely repeat the acclaim and sales that the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy saw.

The original Spyro trilogy for the PlayStation was developed by Insomniac Games, and featured the following titles; Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!, Spyro: Year of the Dragon. The Spyro games allowed the studio to expand and grow to what it is today; with Insomniac creating multiple acclaimed series like Ratchet and Clank and ResistanceThe studio is currently busy working on the anticipated Spider-Man game for the PlayStation 4, which is scheduled to launch later this year.
