During an investor’s call, Ubisoft Montreal has reported that the company has shipped over 8 million copies of Watch_Dogs, fostering its sales this fiscal year. Gratifyingly, this is roughly 2 million units above Ubisoft’s initial prediction of Watch_Dogs selling 6.3 million units its first year. Incidentally, Ubisoft has broke several records with their new IP selling 4 million copies during its first week, making it the best-selling new franchise launch of all time. The company has also preemptively met its tax credit for 2019.

The success of Watch Dogs and the quality of our games portfolio presented at this year’s E3 highlight our strategic positioning as well as our continuous drive for innovation, and affirm our long-term approach. Watch Dogs is now well positioned as a major franchise and we will be able to replicate and build on its success in the coming years. Said Yves Guillemot, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer.

With Watch Dogs now established as a successful franchise for Ubisoft, the future looks bright for the new IP. We can fully expect sequels following the stellar launch of Watch Dogs. You can read our review here.
