Revival on the Horizon: Canalys Predicts Resurgence in PC Shipments

After a prolonged slump, Canalys predicts a turnaround in the PC market, with an expected 5% growth in Q4 2023 and an 8% increase in 2024. The decline since 2021, attributed to the pandemic’s peak, is set to reverse, reaching 2019 shipment levels by 2024 and 2020 levels by 2026.

Canalys points to the rising interest in AI and ARM-equipped PCs as the driving forces behind this revival. AI-powered PCs, including M-series Macs and cutting-edge processors like Ryzen 7000 and Intel’s Meteor Lake, are projected to constitute 19% of shipments in 2024.

ARM-based PCs, notably driven by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite CPU, are expected to play a pivotal role. Canalys previously forecasted a substantial 30% market share for ARM chips by 2026.

However, the report acknowledges the global economy’s influence on PC purchases, citing an “improving macroeconomic environment.” The industry’s optimism hinges on sustained economic recovery fostering a conducive environment for increased PC adoption.

In summary, Canalys envisions a revitalized PC market, fueled by AI and ARM innovations, with a projected return to pre-decline shipment levels in the coming years. The anticipated 5% growth in Q4 2023 serves as a promising indicator of this impending resurgence.
