Plague Tale spin-off Resonance teased with a minotaur - but the details are thin on the ground
Xbox has confirmed a new chapter in the Plague Tale series is coming to Game Pass, but a mythological monster and a vague podcast are about all we've actually got to go on.
Xbox has used its own podcast to confirm that a new instalment in the Plague Tale series is on the way, under the title Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. Beyond that headline, though, there isn’t a great deal of hard information to chew on yet.
What’s actually confirmed
The Official Xbox Podcast, hosted by Jeff Rubenstein, sat down with the development team to talk through “the setting, the story, the combat” and how the game fits into the existing Plague Tale universe while looking different to what’s come before. Xbox Wire also lists Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy among titles heading to Xbox Game Pass, alongside other upcoming additions like Vapor World: Over the Mind and Blood Dungeon.
That’s the extent of what’s genuinely nailed down: a title, a Game Pass slot, and a recorded conversation with the team behind it. The episode’s own thumbnail teases a minotaur, hinting the series may be leaning further into myth and folklore than the grounded, plague-ridden medieval France of the original two games — but the publicly available transcript cuts off just as Rubenstein starts his introduction, so we don’t yet have the developers’ own words on tone, combat systems or how literally to take the minotaur.
What’s still missing
No release date. No price. No confirmed platform list beyond its presence in the Game Pass lineup, which at least suggests Xbox consoles and PC, but nothing has been said about other platforms one way or the other. There’s also no word on whether this is a full sequel, a spin-off, or something closer to a reimagining — Xbox’s own related-content list includes a separate piece titled “Why This Is Far More Than A Plague Tale 3”, which is the kind of framing that’s usually more marketing flourish than technical distinction until proven otherwise.
Worth noting too: this is being presented via a podcast interview rather than a trailer, gameplay demo or press release with a fact sheet. That’s a perfectly normal way to build anticipation, but it also means most of what’s being said is qualitative — “action”, “a whole new way” — rather than anything you could hold the studio to later.
So who does this actually affect right now
Nobody needs to do anything. There’s no pre-order, no beta sign-up, and no confirmed date to put in a diary. If you’re an existing Game Pass subscriber, this is simply a game that will presumably turn up in your library at some unspecified point, alongside the other titles Xbox has flagged. If you’re not a subscriber, there’s nothing here that changes your calculus yet — no price, no platform confirmation for anything outside Xbox/PC, and no gameplay footage to judge.
Fans of the first two Plague Tale games (Innocence and Requiem, both well-regarded stealth-adventure titles) will reasonably be curious about the shift implied by a minotaur showing up in the marketing, since it’s a notable departure from the series’ rat-infested, historically-grounded horror. But curiosity is all this currently supports.
The takeaway
A new Plague Tale game is real and is coming to Game Pass — that much checks out. Everything else, from its tone to its timing, is still coming from a teaser conversation rather than a confirmed release plan, so it’s worth treating the more excitable framing as exactly that until Xbox actually shows the thing running.
