Call of Duty's Season 06 'Haunting' update lands 17 September – but how much of it is actually new?

Activision has confirmed a spooky content drop for Black Ops 7 and Warzone, though a fair chunk of it is old maps and modes wearing a costume.

Call of Duty’s next seasonal update has a confirmed date. Activision says Season 06, dubbed “The Haunting”, arrives across Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone on Thursday 17 September, bringing a horror-themed refresh of maps, modes and Zombies content. That much is stated plainly on the PlayStation Blog. What’s less clear is how much of it is genuinely fresh, and how much is familiar furniture rearranged for spooky season.

What’s actually landing

The headline additions are a new multiplayer map called Quantum, set in an Arctic quantum computing facility, and Bloodstead, described as a “retheme” of the existing Homestead map, now flooded with blood for the occasion. There’s a new limited-time mode, T.E.D.D. Trials, which pulls three Zombies maps into a 6v6 multiplayer format for the first time, and the return of Hordepoint, a zombie-infested spin on Hardpoint that has appeared in previous seasons.

On the Zombies side, there’s a new survival map, Tenshu, set in a besieged Japanese castle, plus a Directed Mode and a restrictive “Starting Room” challenge for the existing Rex Infernus map. Rogue Run, the roguelite Zombies mode, gains new pedestal rewards and two additional maps. A limited “Avalon Night” event promises a “Forbidden Summoning” storyline on the existing Avalon map, and there’s a new season of Ranked Play plus a super Easter egg for players who clear every Round-Based Zombies quest.

Substance versus reskin

Worth being blunt here: this is a seasonal content update for an existing game, not a new release, and Activision’s own wording gives the game away. Bloodstead is explicitly labelled a “retheme” of Homestead rather than a new map. Hordepoint is marked “returning” rather than new. T.E.D.D. Trials is billed as new, but its core selling point is repurposing three Zombies maps players have already played, just in a different mode. Only Quantum and Tenshu are presented as genuinely new spaces to fight in.

None of that makes the update worthless — seasonal Call of Duty content has always leaned on remixing existing assets, and free-to-play Warzone players in particular tend to welcome any new map rotation. But it’s a stretch to call this a wholesale overhaul, and readers shouldn’t expect a transformed game on 17 September so much as a themed refresh with a couple of new maps bolted on.

So who does this actually affect

This is relevant to anyone currently playing Black Ops 7 or Warzone — the update applies across the shared ecosystem, and the PlayStation Blog post frames it as arriving on PlayStation alongside other platforms, as is standard for Call of Duty seasonal drops. There’s no mention of additional cost in the source material, which is consistent with these seasonal updates typically being included for owners of the game, with Warzone remaining free-to-play. Anyone who doesn’t already own Black Ops 7 or play Warzone has no reason to pay attention here.

The takeaway

Season 06 is a real, dated content update, not vapourware or an early tease — 17 September is a firm launch point. But treat the marketing language with a pinch of salt: several of the “new” additions are returning modes or reskinned maps rather than fresh content, so manage expectations accordingly if you’re hoping for a genuinely new game experience rather than a seasonal costume change.
