Monster Hunter Stories 3 finally lands on Xbox PC - but it's not actually new
Capcom's RPG is coming to Windows with Play Anywhere support, but this is a console game catching up to PC, not a fresh release.
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is heading to Xbox on PC on 18 November 2026, with Xbox Play Anywhere support thrown in. Before anyone gets too excited, it’s worth being clear about what this actually is: not a new game, not an exclusive, and not even a surprise. It’s a console RPG that already exists on Xbox Series X|S catching up to Windows.
What’s actually being announced
Capcom’s monster-taming RPG launched on Xbox Series X|S earlier this year, and the only change here is that it’s being added to the Xbox on PC library from 18 November. Xbox Play Anywhere means anyone who buys it digitally through the Xbox/Microsoft ecosystem gets both the console and PC versions, with saves and achievements synced between them. That’s a genuinely useful convenience if you already own an Xbox and a gaming PC, but it isn’t new functionality - Play Anywhere has existed for years.
What’s conspicuously absent from Microsoft’s own announcement is any mention of Steam. “Xbox on PC” typically means the Xbox app on Windows and the Microsoft Store, not a wider PC release. If you were hoping to grab this on Steam alongside your existing Capcom library, there’s nothing here confirming that’s happening, so don’t assume it.
There’s also no price listed in the source material, which is a basic detail worth nailing down before anyone commits to buying it twice.
The bigger occasion: a 10th anniversary, dressed up
The timing isn’t random. Monster Hunter Stories turns ten years old on 8 October, and Microsoft is using the PC release as part of a broader anniversary push. As part of that, the original Monster Hunter Stories and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin - both already available - will run as Free Play Days from 22 to 25 October, letting Game Pass subscribers and Xbox owners try them at no extra cost for a limited window.
That’s a reasonable bit of housekeeping from a publisher marking a decade of a series, but it shouldn’t be confused with new content. Nothing in the announcement suggests new story chapters, monsters, or gameplay additions tied to the anniversary - just access to games that already exist.
So who does this actually affect?
If you’re an Xbox Series X|S owner who already bought Twisted Reflection, nothing changes for you - you’ve had the game for months. If you’re a PC gamer who’s been waiting specifically for a Steam release, this announcement doesn’t confirm that’s coming. The people who genuinely benefit are Xbox Play Anywhere users: those with both a console and a Windows PC who want to swap between the two without buying the game twice, keeping progress synced.
Curious newcomers get a cheap way in via the Free Play Days for the earlier two games later this month, which is a low-risk way to decide whether the series is worth your time before committing to the newest entry.
What to do about it
There’s nothing to act on urgently here. If you already own the game on Xbox, you’ll simply be able to install it on PC when the date arrives. If you’re PC-only and hoping for Steam, hold off and watch for a separate confirmation rather than assuming “PC” means “everywhere.” As ever with platform-specific wording in official announcements, the details matter more than the headline.
