PlayStation's podcast round-up: what's actually landing this month, and what's just marketing spin

Episode 547 of the Official PlayStation Podcast is mostly a highlights reel - here's what's genuinely confirmed versus what's just enthusiastic framing.

Sony’s weekly podcast has dropped its latest episode, and buried under the chat and a Liam McIntyre interview is a genuinely useful list of what’s actually shipping to PlayStation over the next few weeks. As ever with these round-ups, the trick is separating the confirmed dates from the promotional gloss.

What’s actually confirmed

The concrete stuff is straightforward enough. A clutch of games land next week: Marvel’s Wolverine, RuneScape: Dragonwilds, Aniimo, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, Flamecraft, Trine 6: Together in Time and NASCAR 26 are all pencilled in for PS5. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone get a seasonal content drop called The Haunting on 17 September, adding new maps and limited-time modes to Warzone and Zombies.

September’s PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium lineup is also confirmed, headlined by RuneScape: Dragonwilds, WWE 2K26, Ball x Pit, Date Everything, Slitterhead, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, Dungeons of Hinterberg and Sniper Elite: Resistance. Premium subscribers additionally get Mega Man X Command Mission and Metro Redux. Muramasa: Revenant Blades, meanwhile, now has a proper launch date of 4 February.

The bit worth a raised eyebrow

No Man’s Sky’s Cosmos update is live now on PS5, and Sony’s post describes it as “the biggest overhaul since launch” - a claim you’ll want to test yourself rather than take on faith. What is genuinely new: free-floating modular bases that can be built anywhere in space, plus reworked asteroid belts with rock and ice formations. Hello Games has form for big, free updates a decade into the game’s life, so the substance is plausible, but “biggest ever” is Sony’s marketing language, not an independently verified fact.

So who does this actually affect

If you’re a PS Plus Extra or Premium subscriber, the September lineup is real and worth checking against your own backlog - some of these, like Slitterhead and Sniper Elite: Resistance, were paid releases not long ago. If you already own No Man’s Sky, the Cosmos update is free and live today, no purchase needed. Everyone else is really just looking at a release calendar: Wolverine fans get their game next week, Call of Duty players get a mid-month content refresh, and anyone waiting on Muramasa: Revenant Blades now has a date to plan around - albeit five months out.

What to do about it

Nothing urgent here. Check the PS Plus catalogue in the PlayStation app or store before your monthly billing renews if you want to make use of it, since Sony’s own small print notes that PSN release dates are “subject to change without notice.” If No Man’s Sky is already installed, the update should apply automatically the next time you boot it up. Everything else on this list is standard release-calendar housekeeping dressed up as news, which is fine - podcasts like this exist to keep players informed - but it’s worth reading the enthusiasm as enthusiasm, and the dates as the only hard currency.

The takeaway: a normal, fairly unremarkable September for PlayStation owners, with a handful of confirmed dates and one free update that’s worth a look if you already own the game in question. Nothing here demands immediate action, and nothing here is being oversold in a way that should worry anyone.
